It all started when…

J. Johari Palacio, M.A. (Interdisciplinary Art - Columbia College Chicago 2013), born on December 29, 1975, in Chicago, Illinois, is a first-generation child of Belizean immigrants. Relocating to Southern California during his childhood, Palacio became deeply immersed in South Los Angeles' vibrant late '80s street art scene. This early formative exposure laid the foundation for his interdisciplinary practice, which encompasses visual art, photography, sound, and multimedia. His work delves into subterranean street culture, urban landscapes, and human interactions within these environments. A true disciple of hip-hop, Palacio's creations are heavily influenced by music and sound, serving as catalysts for connections, relationships, emotion, and memory. Currently based in Houston, Texas, he continues to explore and document urban culture through various artistic mediums.
